After success of the NELI project the follow-up action, EU project HINT (Harmonised Inland Navigation Transport through education and information technology) was officially launched on 31 January and 1 February 2013 during the Kick-off meeting in Bucharest (Romania). Many international guests accepted the invitation of the Project Lead partner - CERONAV, Romania - to participate in this event, along with the responsible representative of the European Commission, Ms. Roberta Calcina, and the coordinator of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region in Romania, Ms. Monica Patrichi.

Pro Danube International, as a new partner in this action, intends to promote the inland navigation as an interesting and promising sector for young people on the onset of their career development and addresses the need for a closer cooperation between the industry and the educational / training institutions, in view of achieving a harmonised inland navigation education and training that shall ensure a Europe-wide mobility of work force.

Numerous measures will be addressed by the HINT projects in the coming 24 month building up on the outcomes of the NELI project. Namely,

The action Harmonisation activities in inland navigation education & build-up knowledge network aims at fostering the use of ICT, to support networking activities and knowledge exchange through strengthening of the existing Danube Knowledge Network and opening it to the wider audience (for the industry stakeholders along with the educational institutions), alongside with harmonisation activities started on the European level to address one of the main pillars of the economic development of the EU, the free mobility of work force. The further elaboration of the INeS Danube e-learning platform for navigation on the Danube is one of the objectives of the HINT project. Another activity addresses the elaboration of variety of modern concepts in education dealing with a training ship for the Danube, variety of simulators used for navigation and port logistics a/o, taking into consideration Western European experiences. Project partners also realise the need of spreading the knowledge and the awareness as well as that the promotion of inland navigation as an attractive sector to work in is of great importance. This will be done through jointly elaborated transnational job promotion activities addressing different audiences and age groups, through further improvements of existing information centres (e.g. in Ennshafen (AT)), as well as by using new media in pilots carried out in the framework of the project.
